I’m waiting to hear back about a possible Commission, where she would want me to remake one of my first knitted nudes at 150% size of the original (she wants it 6ft tall) first I was figuring out how long that would take (45 days just for the knitting, and most of that knitting would be dusk to dawn) then I was wondering how big I could make one. So I pulled out this photo that I have always wanted to use but wanted it to be different and made the following calculations:
scale of the piece is 9:5 so I could make it 18’x10’ and it would be 1080 rows vertical, and 480 rows horizontal. I would need to do it in sections and I figured 2’x2’ sections would be good. each section would be 120x96 (yes my gauge is 5x4/in2) and would take about 40 knitting hours to make. there would be 45 sections, so that’s 1800 knitting hours. If I knitted for 12 hours a day I would be at the ready to sew things together section in 150 days (approx 3 sections every 10 days)
so, now I have a plan if I ever get a studio/residency for 5 months
so, back on June 7th (two days after my birthday) I was fired from this job because they’re renovating. Then they had me come back and fill in for my boss, who they also fired, because renovations were postponed. Last week everyone was sure Friday was my last day.
Friday they told me to pick a restaurant to go to for lunch today as today was definitely my last day. Then at lunch they told me tomorrow would be my last day. If I’m still working here in a week you’re allowed to hit me.
